A maverick who does unsolicited work within the company: Team Good Wave

At work, I often hear people say, "You should only work as much as you're paid."

“Work-life balance,” or “WLB” for short, has become a term that feels like it’s been around since the dawn of time. Once I started leaving work “on time” rather than rushing out the door, side gigs and projects that could boost my value outside the office have somehow become the norm.

Don’t do what you haven’t been told to do, but go out of your way to find things to do. I don’t know which tune to dance to. While I’m struggling to find my footing, my friends on Instagram seem to be way ahead of me. The colleague sitting next to me is taking a basic Smart Store course during lunch break.

In these turbulent times, there are people who go against the grain by “doing things at work that no one asked them to do.” Wadizvoluntary in-house task force, Team Good Wave.

Moments from Team Good Wave

It’s great that Wadiz“Good Wave” can reach even further, isn’t it?

Team Good Wave is an in-house task force that came together voluntarily to gather and share the positive impact created Wadiz.

As of February 2023, there are two teams active. That’s right— Wadiz, there are more than a few people who go against the grain by taking on tasks within the company that no one asked them to do.

If you're an office worker reading this, these questions are bound to come to mind. Do you get extra pay for working on a task force? Will joining a task force improve your performance review? Everyone wants to avoid task forces—so why would anyone volunteer for one?

They’re the kind of people who go against the grain. They’re the kind of people who take on projects purely because they enjoy them, without any ulterior motives. Rather than the “TF” in Task Force, it’s more like “Try Fun”.

Good Wave

If it weren't fun, I wouldn't have been able to stay so engrossed this late!

It all started inside the company.

The idea was to spread the word about Wadizpositive impact starting from within the company.

In June 2022, Team Good Wave 1 launched an “archiving site” for Wadizemployees. The site allows anyone to view messages of support and praise Wadizposted on various social media platforms, which are submitted by Wadiz employees. This initiative was designed to let us see for ourselves that the path we’re taking is truly making a difference in people’s lives.

As working professionals, there are times when we find ourselves sighing to ourselves, wondering if the work we do actually makes a difference in the world. If we could all see the changes we’re making together, those moments of loneliness would surely be fewer and farther between. Perhaps that’s why the applause at Team Good Wave’s presentation—where they shared their first results—was more enthusiastic than ever before.

Shall we take it a step further? I want to spread positive impact beyond our company.

The second cohort of Team Good Wave has expanded its scope. Wadiz makers to take onand safer support for backers. We’ve been developing various services and policies to support these goals. We didn’t want to keep this knowledge confined to our company; we wanted to share it with more people outside the company.

Good Wave

A scene overflowing with greed

The very idea of stepping outside the company—a place where only those who shareWadizvalues gather—is a challengein itself. Plus, it’s not like anyone asked or told me to do this, and realistically, joining Team Good Wave isn’t going to make me rich!

But for some people, the chance to take on a new challenge—even if it’s just a slight departure from their usual work—without having to leave the company is definitely an exciting prospect. The results of Team Good Wave 2’s unsolicited projects within the company are set to be unveiled for the first time at the March 2023 Impact Forum, featuring Wadiz“Jingukis.”

Good Wave

If we just stop at readingWadiz, it feels a bit disappointing Wadiz—a company dedicated to creating a world where anyone can take on a challenge. That’s why we created a “Challenge Card”
Just like exercise or a hobby, these cards let you pick challenges you want to take on in your daily life—whether it’s to become a better version of yourself or to create new experiences. Save a card and share it on your social media to inspire your friends to take on their own challenges too.

Good Wave

By the way, when you share my challenge card, be sure to check out the stories of successful makers Wadiz. You’ll get a glimpse into how an ordinary person—someone who could easily be sitting next to you on the subway—managed to succeed with their project, and why even major corporations that everyone knows by name choose to launch their new products through crowdfunding.

Team Good Wave describes itself as "office workers who are figuring out how to change the world."

Good Wave

Ah, sometimes you need to recharge before you can change the world!

Even though (?) they’re office workers now, they’re the kind of people who genuinely hope that the work they do will change the world. To some, they might still seem naive and out of touch with reality, but who knows—maybe the people drawn to Team Good Wave have an innate desire to take on challenges and make things happen, hidden deep inside them like Superman.
