Better Together

I believe that a society made up of people who design their daily lives according to their own beliefs and values will ultimately lead us toward a warmer world. Let me introduce some of the social and campaign projects that have caught Wadizeye. If we work together, the world will become just a little bit warmer.

1. Starting Point: This is how the project began.

Project to Support Descendants of Independence Activists

# The Reason for Today

How can the fact that I have a free and warm homeland be so heartbreaking and leave my heart feeling so cold?

As we mark March 1st, I reflect on the noble sacrifices of the countless independence activists who risked their lives to fight for democracy and independence. I also realize just how precious our present is, thanks to the blood and sweat they shed to protect it. There is surely nothing more important than living our lives to the fullest, with a heart full of gratitude for the freedom they secured for us. At the same time, I feel a strong sense of responsibility to keep these values alive and pass them on to future generations.

# In Search of the Forgotten Independence Activists

However, despite our gratitude, the reality is far from easy. It is a shameful fact that, out of the approximately 150,000 independence activists in Korea, we know the names and faces of only a handful.

It was a heartbreaking reality that not only were these names forgotten, but the descendants of independence activists were also living in dire conditions without adequate support, burdened by poverty rather than pride. Just as countless independence activists protected our names and homes on that historic day, we launched this fundraising campaign with the belief that it is now our turn to recover the names of these unsung heroes and provide their descendants with a warm home.

2. Better Together: Together, we can do this.

“Back then, the Japanese confiscated everything—land and all. My grandfather made a name for himself, but as his grandson, I feel most sorry that I haven’t been able to live up to that legacy.”
_ Excerpt from an interview with Lee In-baek, grandson of independence activist and patriot Lee So-eung

“My grandfather was involved in the independence movement in Jeongseon, but after receiving 90 lashes, he was never able to work properly again. He didn’t have the chance to go to school, so he couldn’t read. We don’t have much, but we live without being greedy.”
_Excerpt from an interview with Lee Eui-ho, the grandson of independence activist and patriot Im Cheol-jae
