Meet the production team who will take you behind the scenes!

🙋‍♀️ Creator Gudi Hello. I’m Gudi, a storyteller through video.
Under the slogan “The True Leaders Who Move the World,” I planned and produced the True Leaders series, which tells the stories of people who are carving out their own paths in life and changing the world for the better.

🙍‍♀️ Planner Girit Hello, I’m Girit, a planner on the Media Content Team who plans videos and helps spread content.
I hope you enjoy today’s “Jin-guk’s Top 4 Content” feature. Let’s go, Girit!

Jinguk World Planning Notes Shell Corporation

If you're looking for the courage to step outside your comfort zone, look no further than Shell Corporation

Shell Corporation creates a protective shell (SHELL) for those who step outside their comfort zones to take on new challenges for the sake of their physical and mental well-being. Driven by a genuine love for the brand and a commitment to the environment, Shell Corporation continues to move forward every day.

🙋‍♀️ Producer Gudi Shell Corporation is the video that really got the ball rolling for Jin Guk-in, so it stands out most in my memory. Episode 1, in particular, was very challenging during the casting process. My team and I joined forces to send out casting emails to over 20 people, but all we got were rejections like, “I don’t think I can appear,” or “My schedule is too busy to participate.”

Q. You must have been on edge since the cast hadn’t been finalized yet.

🙋‍♀️ Producer Gudi That’s right. To meet the planned launch schedule, we had to start filming right away. Just as I was feeling at a loss, we managed to secure the CEO of Shell Corporation. I still remember our first phone call.
Since I’d been turned down several times before, I wasn’t expecting much, but then I heard the CEO’s cheerful voice on the other end of the line. “This is such a great concept—it sounds like it’ll be fun. Of course I’d love to be part of a video like this!” It was such a heartwarming response that it instantly washed away all the frustration I’d been feeling. Eager to make a good impression on the CEO, I even wore Shell Corporation socks to the shoot. (Laughs) After securing the CEO, it was almost as if by magic—we managed to secure the other interviewees as well, and the series got off to a smooth start.

Q. Please share any behind-the-scenes stories from the shoot.

🙋‍♀️ Producer Goo-di When we interviewed Shell Corporation, it was a startup in its first year of operation. Since it was still in its early stages, filming at their office was difficult. We rented a studio in Seongsu and put a lot of effort into the set design to make it look as much like a fashion company as possible. I remember feeling really proud when acquaintances who watched the video told me, “I didn’t realize it was a studio. It looked just like a real office.”

Q. Since this is the first episode of the "Jin-guk-in" series, I imagine you must have had a hard time establishing the visual tone and style.

🙋‍♀️ Creator Goody Shell Corporation was a brand with a strong hip vibe, but the brand scheduled for the next episode was a magazine focused on tradition, so it needed to convey a sense of seriousness. I remember it being difficult to strike the right balance between hipness and seriousness.
Since interview content tends to follow a similar format, I also put a lot of effort into making it stand out. I focused on bringing out as much detail as possible in design elements like intros, transitions, and background visuals (such as illustrations or collages). Jinguk World Planning Notes: Ho-eun

A story of two generations discovering the joy of slowing down: Jin Guk-in and Ho-eun

Two young men who discovered the beauty of slowness through traditional ceramics founded the brand “Ho-eun.” Together with Master Kim Young-soo of Icheon Pottery, who has been carrying on the ceramic tradition for 48 years, they are introducing ceramic products that convey the value of rest.

🙍‍♀️ Planner Girit Whenever I meet up with friends, we always end up talking about burnout and taking a break. We lose track of time as we discuss how each of us overcomes lethargy and how to find happiness in the midst of a hectic life. The episode featuring Ho-eun, a true expert, stands out most in my memory because it was the content that inspired me to overcome burnout.

Q. I hear there’s a special story about burnout in it?

🙍‍♀️ Planner Girit CEO Hong Il-ho of Hoeun often lay awake worrying about the future and lived a breathless life with a brisk pace and rapid breathing. Sounds a lot like us, doesn’t it? But he says he overcame this through traditional ceramics. Check out the video to find out why ceramics, of all things, and for the full story behind his collaboration with Master Craftsman Kim Young-soo!

Q. I heard you had a deep conversation with the master craftsman as well?

🙍‍♀️ Producer Girit She shared many insightful thoughts on how to approach pottery and one’s attitude toward life. I remember that the entire production team gained a profound realization, especially from the part about the joys of life that we hadn’t understood when we were younger. We wanted to share this story with as many people as possible, so we created a short video. If you’re curious, click the link below.

Q. Are there any other episodes?

🙍‍♀️ Planner Girit On the day of the shoot, it poured rain from the moment I woke up. Since I had to drive all the way to the filming location—Icheon Pottery Village—I was extremely nervous. But when I arrived, the master craftsman and his wife welcomed me with warm smiles, and they even treated us to a delicious meal right after the shoot wrapped up. My initial nervousness melted away like the clouds clearing, leaving only a sense of warmth throughout the interview. It was the first time I’d met an interviewee who went to such lengths to look after the production team, and I was deeply moved.

Jinguk World Planning Notes: Creators Lab

In an era where even toy mukbangs are possible: The Creators Lab Edition

Ryu Jeong-ha, CEO of Creators Lab, noticed a rash develop while playing with clay with her child. Through clay toys that combine play and nutrition, she is helping to ensure children’s right to safety.

🙍‍♀️ Producer Girit The episode featuring Jinguk-in’s Creators Lab was not only the first piece of content I worked on as a planner, but I also really wanted to share it because it clearly reflects Jinguk-in’s commitment to children’s safety. The interview captures the countless efforts that went into creating safe modeling clay that kids can play with and even eat.

Q. You mean it’s clay, but you can eat it?

🙍‍♀️ Producer Girit Yes, you can definitely do a “mukbang” with this. Since we needed a scene where we make and eat it on set, I tried it out myself. It’s fun to knead and shape the dough, and when I topped it on a biscuit, it was sweet and light—I just couldn’t stop reaching for more. (Laughs) The kits range from making dinosaurs to endangered animals, so I found myself wanting to collect them all. Since they’re both delicious and fun, I’m sure kids will really love them.

Jinguk World Planning Notes by An Sora

An So-ra, a master of lacquer art and electric guitarist who has taken the world by storm

An So-ra, a lacquer artist who first took up the craft as a junior in college and has dedicated the past 10 years to mastering it, is leading the way in globalizing the art form by collaborating with metal artist Lee Jung-hyung to create electric guitars featuring lustrous mother-of-pearl inlays finished with lacquer.

🙋‍♀️ Producer: Gudi  The episode featuring artist Ahn So-ra, a certified practitioner of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Korean Lacquerware, was produced in conjunction with the launch of the Jin Guk-in seasonal series.
We first launched Jin Guk-in in August 2021. After about a year, we had accumulated a lot of content, but viewers’ reactions kept stopping at “I want to help too.” I felt we needed a turning point to change this situation. Rather than limiting the message to simply “people doing good deeds,” I wondered, “What if we expanded it to stories of people carving out and shaping their own lives?” and “Wouldn’t it be great to deepen the concept by creating videos that inspire viewers and give them the courage to take on new challenges?” That’s how the “It Didn’t Exist, But It Was There” series came to be.
For Season 1, themed around “people preserving what is fading away,” we interviewed a total of six individuals. Among them, we met artist An So-ra, who, at a relatively young age, applied the unfamiliar technique of lacquer work to electric guitars and introduced it to the world.

Q. Lacquer and electric guitars?
It sounds like there’s a lot of interesting content in there.

🙋‍♀️ Creator: Goody I’ve seen many elderly artisans featured in the media, but stories about young apprentices training to become artisans rarely get the spotlight, so I wanted to explore this topic. It usually takes 30 to 40 years to become a master artisan, and I couldn’t imagine how anyone could endure that long while focusing solely on a single goal. Having heard many negative stories about apprentices struggling with financial hardship during their training, I became curious about the real-life experiences of those currently going through this process. I wanted to share their stories with the countless people dedicated to their craft.

Author Ahn So-ra's response after watching the video

Q. Have your thoughts changed since the interview?

🙋‍♀️ Producer Gudi : I realized that thinking, “Is she having a hard time?” was a narrow-minded way of thinking. Lee Soo-ja told me that instead of giving up because she isn’t getting attention in Korea, she continues to build her own brand and expand her artistic world. Above all, I learned a great deal from her sense of mission. I believe that the greatest power to preserve what is fading away is “interest.” I felt that if there are people who carry on with steady interest and affection, and if the interest of those watching over them continues, we will eventually see good results.
