One autumn day in 2023, the Wadiz X manager—whose hobby is taking a break from work to log onto X (formerly Twitter) and chuckle at posts—paused while scrolling through one particular post.
It was a post supporting a crowdfunding project, but the words that caught my eye wereWadizpuppy… amputation?”

A post supporting the "Straw" crowdfunding project discovered by a Wadiz X representative
A crowdfunding campaign to rescue stray dogs, launched as a last-ditch effort: “Straw Crowdfunding”
Here’s the story behind the fundraising campaign. A puppy, about three months old, was rescued by local residents from a waterway in a nearby hillside. In its desperate struggle to survive, the puppy had rubbed against the concrete wall so fiercely that its jelly-like paw pads—which should have been soft and supple—had completely worn away. The puppy’s condition was far too serious to feel relieved just because it had been rescued. It was suffering from a tick infestation and anemia, and was even facing the possibility of having a leg amputated.
A local resident who was looking for a way to help learned about the crowdfunding campaign through a friend’s recommendation and became a backer to cover the dog’s surgery and boarding costs. They named the puppy “Suro” and, grasping at straws, joined the “Straw Funding Project’ in a last-ditch effort.
Turning 1,000 won into over 7,777,777 won
The only reward available for backing the project is just 1,000 won, but the project's funding goal is 7,777,777 won.
“Can we raise about 7.77 million won with just 1,000 won each? Is there anything we, as Wadiz, can do to help the waterway?”
Wadiz employees gathered in small groups to find ways to help. We worked together to reach the fundraising goal by promoting the campaign through Wadiz and our personal social media accounts, and by encouraging employees to participate via our internal messenger. (You can easily spot Wadiz employees on the list of supporters. Even our CEO participated in the campaign!)

The creator has a whopping 21—a true master of communication! Moved by the Maker’s dedication to the project, even those who had already backed the campaign were moved to tears and decided to contribute again, pulling in every connection they had to spread the word. And just like that, the “Straw Fundraising” campaign—which started with a reward of just 1,000 won —miraculously surpassed its goal of approximately 7.77 million won and reached 100%! (The world is still a good place to live in.)

So, what happened with the canal? ‘Behind the Funding’
The creator of the "Straw" crowdfunding campaign said that the amount raised by the 306 backers and the process itself gave them the strength to keep going. How do I know? Because I met the creator in person. 😉
We’ve covered everything from the story of how Su-ro was rescued to the latest news about his new name and family. Check out the behind-the-scenes funding video!
