IP-Based Merchandise Achieves Standout Results Wadiz
- Merchandise featuring brand and character IPs is enjoying one hit after another on Wadiz.
- Over the past year, there have been a total of 20 IP merchandise projects in Wadiz Characters & Merchandise category that have raised more than 50 million won, with an average of 3,666 subscribers per project—approximately 4.7 times the overall Wadiz average (787).
- Looking at some representative examples, the “Binggrae Banana-Flavored Milk 5-Piece Ceramic Tableware Set,” exclusively launched on Wadiz, has raised approximately 600 million won (currently in progress), the official Haetai collaboration “Hand Warmer + Power Bank That Can Be Shared Like a Ssangssangba” has raised approximately 680 million won, and Orion’s “Cham Bungeoppang Hand Warmer Power Bank” has raised approximately 205 million won, respectively.
- Analysts say that the “exclusive release and limited quantity” model unique to crowdfunding is driving active participation from fan communities and is establishing itself as a new channel for validating the market for IP merchandise.
Overseas Demand Confirmed Even During the Global U.S. Open… Some Cases Even Led to Actual Purchases
- It is worth noting that, even though most of these projects were not funded by global supporters, demand from overseas consumers was evident as early as the notification sign-up stage.
- The “Binggrae Banana-Flavored Milk 5-Piece Ceramic Tableware Set” attracted approximately 24,317 notification subscribers, with interest coming from various countries including the United States, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, and Germany. The “Haetai Ssangssangba Hand Warmer Power Bank” and “Orion Cham Bungeoppang Hand Warmer Power Bank” also received a steady stream of notification requests from overseas consumers in the United States, Japan, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
- In the case of the “Atta Mamma HOME Edition” (pajamas, T-shirts, keychains, pouches, etc.), which launched simultaneously worldwide, actual international payments were processed. Although this project was initially planned for the domestic market only, Wadizproposed a simultaneous global launch to the maker after confirming the influx of international fans and growing interest in the IP.
- This project, which attracted approximately 3,294 backers and raised a total of about 74 million won, saw about 25% of its total funding come from Japan and Hong Kong. This indicates that IP merchandise, which began as a trend centered on domestic fans, has now led to actual overseas payments following its simultaneous global launch.
- Wadizcurrently operates a global crowdfunding service covering more than 200 countries worldwide. As of March of this year, the number of requests for international notifications on the platform has increased more than threefold on a daily average, and traffic from overseas—particularly from the U.S. and Japan—as well as new member sign-ups continue to grow steadily.
- If IP merchandise creators plan a global launch in tandem with their domestic launch, Wadizprovides an environment where they can naturally tap into the growing demand from overseas fans—which is already expanding through Wadizplatform—and gauge the global market’s response at the same time.
