We often hear news about famous celebrities who were previously independent signing contracts with agencies. You might wonder, “They’ve been doing just fine without an agency, so why bother? And they’ll have to split their earnings, too.”

But then, not long after, they started appearing in the media even more than before, and before long, they went beyond mere fame to become top-tier stars with a long-lasting career. That’s right. Their agency was a “cheat code” that handled everything from the minutiae of their schedules to crafting strategies to help them succeed even more.

Wadiz, a crowdfunding and distribution platform, has launched its own agency. However, rather than signing artists, the agency will consist entirely of brands that it has personally selected—in other words, through a casting process.

Why did Wadiz, a crowdfunding platform, go so far as to start its own company and position itself as a pacesetter for makers?

Wadizaims to create an environment in South Korea where taking on new challenges feels natural. What does it take to make challenges feel less daunting? Two things are needed. First, they shouldn’t be too difficult. Second, they should offer the sweet taste of success. When you find yourself thinking, “This isn’t so hard,” or “This actually works,” you’ll be inspired to take on new challenges—and to take on bigger, bolder ones.

It is the Wadiz platform’s mission to provide opportunities and establish processes that make it easy for anyone to get started. Over the past 10 years Wadizhas hosted a cumulative total of over 54,000 projects, and there are more than 25,000 teams of makers who have launched at least one project. 

The makers Wadizvary widely in terms of their level of activity and the scale of their success. Some achieve funding in the hundreds of millions of won with every project launch, while others fade into obscurity after a brief moment in the spotlight. Some launch follow-up projects quickly, while others take quite a long time.

I started to wonder.

Could budget constraints be causing them to take a passive approach to project preparation, even though they’re capable of doing better?
