How the Wadiz Store Suggests Perfect Matches

November 22, 2023 | Planning Notes, Service Stories

Planning Notes introduces the planning process behind everything Wadizcreates, following the five Ws and one H.
If you’re curious about the thought process behind creating impact, be sure to check this out! Planning Notes, filled to the brim with thoughtful consideration and sincerity—we’re writing it down right now✍

Have you ever seen phrases like “Blackbird,” “Brand of the Day,” or “Year-End Party Plan” Wadiz? These are all special promotions from the Wadiz Store. Every day, the Wadiz Store curates products that are perfect for buying right now and presents them to our supporters through these promotions.

Most of the products in theWadiz Store started out as crowdfunding or pre-order projects. Because of their unique origins, it can be challenging to connect these products and curate themed collections. Yet, we continue to put together perfectly curated collections day in and day out. Aren’t you curious about the secret behind this?
Here’s theWadiz Store MD’s curation notebook. Let’s get started!

Hello, please introduce yourself.

🧐 Hello, I’m Moon Jin-guk, a Merchandising Director at the Wadiz Store. Nice to meet you!

I noticed there are all kinds of special promotions on Wadiz!

🧐 That's right. In addition to the "Weekend Deals" you can find elsewhere, we also have "New Arrivals with Reviews," which showcases the latest monthly releases, and "Brand of the Day," which spotlights top brands. We also hold themed promotions depending on the season, such as the "Gift Collection" and "Quality of Life Upgrade."

Are there any special promotions available exclusively Wadiz?

🧐 We put a lot of effort into curating “Brand of the Day.” The “Brand of the Day” selected by Wadiz features brands that have grown through Wadiz funding and pre-order projects. This feature serves as a spotlight for brands that representWadizcrowdfunding,
In ‘Brand of the Day,’
we introduce makers (brands) recognized by many supporters every month, and you can find everything from the makers’ successful funded products to items not yet featured Wadizat reasonable prices. As a result, the feature not only helps with branding but also provides an opportunity for the maker’s products to reach a wider audience of supporters.

From regular exhibitions to seasonal events, we hold quite a few exhibitions quite often.
Is there a reason you go to such lengths?

🧐 A special exhibition is like a nickname or a descriptive phrase. If you just hear a name, it’s easy to forget, and you can’t really tell what kind of person they are, right? But if you hear a nickname or a descriptive phrase along with it, you’re more likely to remember it. You can also get a sense of their personality and whether they’d be a good fit for you.

Wadiz Store: "Cashmere Collection"

The same goes forWadiz curated campaigns. There are over 2,000 projects in the store. If we curate and showcase products based on themes that supporters want or need, the products’ strengths are communicated more intuitively and are more likely to be remembered. Let’s take “preparing for the cold snap” as an example—it’s something people are interested in right now. So, we’re curating products around that theme and sending out CRM* messages to ensure people see them!

How long does it usually take to prepare a single exhibition?
Which exhibition takes the longest to prepare?

🧐 As expected, “Brand of the Day” takes the longest to prepare. The first time, it took about three months.
Unlike other special features that introduce multiple brands and products, it’s a “stage” that shines the spotlight on a single brand.. In particular, being selected for ‘Brand of the Day’ gives us the opportunity to introduce products to supporters that have never been funded Wadizbefore. That’s why we have to be even more careful when selecting makers.
After selecting the maker, we begin the reorganization process, which includes launching a new project, setting product prices, and revising the story (detail page).
It’s a demanding and time-consuming process, but once the project launches, it often brings a great sense of accomplishment.
If it seems like I’m rushing through the process, that’s a misunderstanding. (Haha)

Since it requires so much effort, I imagine we’ll need quite a few teams.
How many teams typically participate in a single special exhibition?

🧐 Just counting the MD, AMD, Business Planning Team, BX Team, and Marketing Team, there are already 4 or 5 teams involved. That’s quite a few, isn’t it?

What does each team do?

🧐 The MD handles everything from setting up the theme to curating products that fit it. The AMD primarily handles administrative tasks such as setting up promotions. The Business Planning Team develops seasonal themes and determines CRM strategies and placement channels. The BX Team creates eye-catching key visuals for the campaigns, and the Marketing Team supports these efforts through CRM campaigns and other marketing initiatives.

Today's Brand: 'Arencia'

If the collaborative exhibition organized by several teams goes well, I imagine it will be quite rewarding.

🧐 I really enjoyed working on “Arencia” for today’s featured brand. Since we were launching products that hadn’t been part of a Wadiz crowdfunding campaign, the MD had to communicate extensively with the makers. It also stands out in my memory because we went through a lot of deliberation—from purchasing quotes to promotional pricing—to make it happen. Everything from development to creating the product page, launching the project, and receiving the inventory was really challenging, but I’m proud that we created a successful case study thanks to the hard work of our various teams.

I'm also curious about the process of organizing the exhibition.

🧐 After reviewing the themes and topics for the period compiled by the Business Planning Team, we list the projects that align with them. We then decide on the discount percentage for the listed products. At the same time, we check inventory levels, review product stories (detail pages), and verify any issues with suppliers.
At this stage, the Marketing Team sets the appropriate CRM channels and budget for the campaign and considers the layout of the event page. Subsequently, the BX Team visually finalizes the event page. Each team works simultaneously and in close coordination.

Is there any part of the process that you pay the most attention to?

🧐 Project Selectionis where I spend the most time deliberating . Just because a project fits the theme perfectly doesn’t mean it gets selected.
I carefully evaluate whether the maker is reputable enough to be recommended to supporters under a specific theme.
We also check whether the product has already been heavily featured in other promotional events or special campaigns. If the same product is introduced repeatedly, it can lead to supporter fatigue. It doesn’t feel fresh either, and it could negatively impact the effectiveness of the campaign. When you look more closely, you’ll notice projects that, while not necessarily grabbing supporters’ attention right away, would likely generate a positive response if introduced.

If there are any upcoming exhibitions, please give us a little sneak peek!

🧐 Starting November 27, the “Brand of the Day” event featuring “Kuja,” the creator behind the YouTube channel “Kuja’s Kitchen,”will run for three days. “Kuja Fan”is a highly successful crowdfunding product Wadiz. Since the creator is truly dedicated to the product, the quality is excellent. This time, we’re offering a whopping 20% brand discount coupon! You can get much better deals than on their own online store. Exclusive Wadiz products are also being sold at their original crowdfunding prices. Since “Brand of the Day” only features great products from great creators, I’m planning to buy one myself!

We arecurrently running our Blackbird promotionas part of Black Friday, so we hope you’ll show us your support!
